Street Art and Culture in the dynamic "Braam"!

  • Culture in Braamfontein: Fashion, Art, Bars, Local Designers, Book Store etc.!
  • History and development of the Braamfontein Precinct from 1853 to today i.e. from a small family farm to a creative hub in the City!
  • Visit to the local Graffiti Store i.e. graffiti supplies, merchandise by local artists, pop-up exhibitions...maybe even meet a local artist!
  • What makes Braamfontein cool to locals i.e. weekends/nightlife, music, cool events, art galleries and why we love this place so much!

This tour is child friendly but we do cross some busy streets in the area

We meet at the exciting LOCO restaurant where guests can grab some tasty Mexican food or coffee while you wait for the tour to start!

This tour starts with a brief history of Braamfontein’s development from a small farm in 1853 to the cool cultural hub its become in the past 20 years!

Once done with the introduction, we speak about the differences between “Graffiti VS Street Art” as it’s fun to try figure out whether a piece of art is Graffiti or Street Art!

We dive deeper into the meaning of some of the iconic works in the area while also taking in the diverse culture found on the streets!

One of the highlights of this tour is a visit to the local Graffiti store, where guests may bump into some of the local Graffiti Artists whose works you see on the City’s walls and along this tour!

The tour ends with a slow walk back to the starting point, while we chat about why we love this neighbourhood and some of the cool things to do in the area i.e. live music, where to go out, cool local brands to buy, market etc..

Braamfontein is one of the most culture rich areas in Johannesburg…its got fashion, its got a vibe, its got culture and its got even more amazing people!

Come explore this vibrant neighbourhood and see why it’s home to the urban contemporary street culture inspiring the city and it’s young people!

 

***NOTE***

On Saturdays, “The Playground” is open to the public where guests can go relax after this tour while listening to some music, eating some tasty food and enjoying a cold drink while looking down onto the streets from above!

Is there parking available?

We only have secure parking for the following tours:

For all other tours, there is street parking available but used entirely at your own risk. Please let us know beforehand if you plan on coming with your own vehicle so we can sort out safer parking spots for you.

We highly recommend guests use e-hailing services to and from tours so you don’t have to worry about parking and the safety of your vehicle!

Are children allowed?

For Skateboarding Tours –

Children are allowed BUT must be accompanied by an adult (over 18) for the full duration of the tour.

We recommend the Maboneng Skate Tour for families with children under 14 years old – it’s shorter and roads are quieter on weekends (SAT – SUN).

Chidlren under the age of 5 years old are not recommended on these tours – however, if they can skate already then they’ll be fine!

 

For All Other Tours – Graffiti & Street Art Tours, Walking Tours

Children are allowed but must be accompanied by an adult (over 18) for the full duration of the tour.

Do I need to purchase tickets in advance?

Preferably yes, advance ticket purchase/booking is recommended to avoid disappointment!

However, we do take walk-ins if there are still spaces on a tour.

Events typically sell out quickly. To maximize your chances of getting the date, time, and number of tickets you prefer, please book well in advance.
